Course Overview

5G New Radio (NR) specifications enable more flexibility in cellular systems and introduce new ways to use spectrum in sub-6 GHz and mmWave frequencies. New physical layer standards define an air interface which will support many use cases expected in 5G. This course reviews 5G NR coexistence with other wireless communication systems. Three primary use cases of 5G will also be reviewed with greater detail – enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), ultra-reliable and low latency communications (URLLC), and massive machine-type communication (mMTC).  The course addresses the challenges inherent with tackling issues such as new frequency spectrum, wide bandwidth, MIMO, and Beam Steering. 5G NR non-standalone mode (NSA) and standalone mode (SA) will be reviewed to understand the future role of the 5G base station (gNB).

5G Outlook - Instructor Led

The first two phases of 5G standards have been released, but the commercial deployment of 5G mobile networks is yet to start. Interest, investment, and declarations of initial trials in various parts of the world continue to increase in preparation for the full and final standard due out by 2020. This course provides an overview…
